- Cauliflower bread: Cauliflower bread is one of the most important survival superfoods you’ll need. It has many variations and is highly adaptable. You only need to replace at least half of the flour you would normally use to make bread with cauliflower, then use other ingredients you’d like, such as those that you grow in your survival garden or find in nature.
- Chia seeds: Chia seeds, a member of the mint family, have been cultivated in Central and South America for decades. This nutrient-dense superfood can be consumed raw or cooked. Chia seeds are rich in B vitamins, protein, and other essential minerals and gluten-free. You can use chia seeds in many ways. For one, chia seeds can be used as toppings for cereal and yogurt. The gel made from chia seeds when soaked can be used as a partial replacement for wheat and rye in bread recipes for they provide good texture and work well in low-carb and nutrient-dense recipes. You can also grind them to use in crackers and other non-perishable foods. You can make your own energy bars with chia seeds, which can give you protein and other essential nutrients you need to survive and thrice in dangerous situations.
- Dried fruits and vegetables: Dried fruits and vegetables are some of the foods that are easiest to obtain, prepare, and store for long-term use. They can be used to make smoothies, added to soups, and spread on meat and bread. Fruits and vegetables can be made into powder, candies, or flat sheets that are rolled up.
- Hardtack: There are many variations of hardtack, which is a type of hard cracker that can last for years. It was first used in Egypt, and later on, was carried by sailors. Although hardtack recipes vary, they are common in terms of being in the driest possible form. Hardtack also has to be softened by soaking it in coffee, water, or some other liquid to consume. When the biscuit is softened, you can fry it and mix it with herbs and spices for flavoring and added nutrients. Hardtack will provide calories but it is still mostly carbohydrate and starch, so you still need proteins, fat, and fiber to make a healthy diet.
- Hummus: Hummus, which originated in Palestine and Syria, is a nutrient-dense, tasty food that is often used as a dip or consumed as is. It is often made from ground chickpeas or other seeds, olive oil, garlic, salt, and lemon juice. It can be consumed warm or cold, and can be rolled out and dried overnight.
- Medicinal wines and vinegar: These fermented products are both essential survival foods. Medicinal wines can be used for medicinal purposes and for purifying water when nothing else is available. On the other hand, vinegar is a great medicinal agent. White vinegar can also be used for non-food related purposes. It can be used in the laundry and other cleaning purposes.
- Molasses oatmeal cookies: Molasses oatmeal cookies are a nutrient-rich, delicious recipe that was developed during the World War II. The molasses served as an alternative to brown sugar, which was hard to obtain during those times. Molasses may have lesser carbohydrates than brown sugar, but it is still rich in energy that can help you keep feeling strong and fit.
- Pemmican: Pemmican may be one of the greatest survival food you need to stock up on because it has everything the body needs to sustain itself in a healthy way for an extended period. Invented by native Americans, pemmican is made of a mixture of meat and animal fat that can also be mixed with fruit and berries. - Wild yeast: Wild yeast is often overlooked, but it is actually important to know how to cultivate and maintain them because they are essential in making some of the most important nutrient-dense survival foods.
- Yogurt: Yogurt is one of the oldest and healthiest fermented foods made by humans. It was first created in Mesopotamia, then spread to India, Greece, Russia, Asia, and Europe. Yogurt is made with two essential ingredients, milk and a suitable culture. You can buy ready-to-use cultures and learn how to keep them going for future batches of yogurt. You can also buy pre-made yogurt with certified live cultures. When choosing bacterial culture strains, make sure they are safe for the mouth and stomach. Additionally, consider any health conditions that you may have and whether or not it is safe for you to use these supplements. Yogurt is typically combined with honey, fruits, and other flavorings for added benefit.
